Medical Education Division

At Vascular Access Specialists, we offer education opportunities to help you provide the best infusion therapy services possible to patients.

We offer classes for individuals interested in furthering their education and to hospitals and other healthcare facilities, enabling them to train their entire infusion staff. All of our classes were developed and are taught by experts in the field.

Educational services include:

Infusion Team Program—Proactive Approach to Vascular Access, Cost Containment & Ultrasound Guided PICC Placements. This 10-hour class, worth eight continuing education units, provides a comprehensive overview of infusion therapy and can be brought to your facility with a minimum of six participants.

Vascular Access: Documentation, Maintenance, Removal and Culture Course. This class aims to improve the care of all vascular access devices by helping the nurse to understand the proper use of IV access and how to avoid catheter infections. It is available periodically to individuals at varying locations or can be brought to your location, provided minimum requirements are met.

On-site Precepting is available with contract in Indiana and Western Ohio. This program brings a VAS nurse to your facility to train and assist your staff in the safe and successful placement of a PICC. We provide competency validation for your staff until independent. To qualify, you must first obtain didactic PICC education for your staff, and ensure that the nurses taking part are operating within their professions' standards of practice.

Before actual PICC placements occur, our clinician will meet with your staff to evaluate:

  • Retention of information
  • Adequacy of available equipment
  • Simulated equipment practice

Focused In-services are also available to contracted facilities. These short, 15-to-30 minute sessions can cover:

  • Dressing Changes
  • Flushing
  • Proactive Venous Access Assessment
  • Catheter Occlusions, Assessment and Declotting
  • Customized in-services to address specific facility needs as they arise
